Happy New Year, friends! A new year is one of my very favorite things and this one is no different. I want to start off by saying how incredibly grateful I am for all of the wonderful people I met and got to know even better in 2013, and look so forward to all of my lovely 2014 couples and families I’ve yet to meet. I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of each and every one of you, and it means so, so much to me that you trust me with your family’s very precious memories. Throughout the post I’m going to share a few photos from the mini sessions I did back in October while I announce some new changes regarding the way things will be going down in the new year! I have lots of exciting new things to announce and discuss, so here goes!
Firstly, I’m completely booked for weddings for 2014! I am so excited about ALL of the weddings to come this year and the amazing couples I will have the privilege of working with. Wedding season will start in mid-April for me, and I’m looking forward to each and every one of them! I have two exciting destination weddings this coming season and I’m thrilled to be able to explore some new cities this year, too. Thank you again to all of my 2014 couples for your trust and for sharing your love stories with me — I’m honored to be a part of telling them.
In 2014, I’m going to book sessions a little bit differently. With regard to family sessions — I experimented with mini sessions in the Fall (as many of you know) and although it was something that I had previously stayed away from, I ended up loving them! I have had a lot of interest in these and it was a ton of fun spending our time in 20 minute bursts of adventure. I think it was fun for the kids to keep it short and sweet and we ended up getting some really great images. After having my second babe in April, I’ve decided that in 2014 I will ONLY be doing mini sessions (with a few exceptions, discussed in more detail below). For now, my full one-hour sessions are changing shape and direction (more below). I will shoot minis once in late Spring, and then again in the Fall. When I nail down those dates, I’ll make an announcement here and on Facebook, and whoever is interested is more than welcome to sign up!
For some families, the hour (or more!) is completely necessary for the ability to tell a story –fully and authentically. This, of course, includes newborn sessions, but also some families that have a particular story to tell and want more than just a few frame-able photos in time for the holidays. Storytelling really is a passion of mine, and I want to keep this part of my creative spirit going and offer this to clients who are interested. I just want to make sure, first, that we are a good fit and are on the same page as far as this kind of session. I’ve started using questionnaires for all of my clients that are interested in storytelling sessions, to further develop our connection before the shoot, and to give us the opportunity to develop ideas and exchange thoughts before we meet. These sessions will be distinctly different and I’ll only be offering a very limited amount of these sessions per year. When inquiring, we’ll work together to make the distinction about what kind of session (mini or storytelling) would be the best fit for your family.
It’s been a long-term dream of mine (since we lived in our townhouse with a backyard the size of a kitchen table) to have an “outdoor studio”. Now that we have a bit more space to roam at our new home, I’m making that dream a reality in 2014! I’ve taken some of my very favorite photos in our yard and I can’t wait to bring some creative visions to life with flowers, painted benches, archways, gardens, hammocks, etc. I think it will be fun welcoming you to my home and being able to create fun memories and photos in the beauty that I’ve been able to cultivate with my family. I’m thinking, for now, that I’d mostly host the mini sessions here and the storytelling sessions would more often than not be in a place that is meaningful to you (either your home or a special place of your choosing), but I would of course be open to doing storytelling sessions here, too. I’ll be posting updates (when Spring comes!) about how that’s all going. I’m really excited about it!
Lastly, at the end of 2013, we purchased a photo booth to begin renting at weddings & other special events! My husband is handling most of that stuff and I will release lots more info and goodies about that soon. But, you guys, it’s so much fun! You (and up to 7 of your friends!) can jump in, grab some fun props, take some amazing photos, and leave with a real strip of your memories. If any of you are interested in more information about that for your upcoming wedding or event, just shoot me an email. Very soon, I’ll have a link to all of that up but I just wanted to give you all a heads up about that new adventure!
If you have any questions about any of the new goodness mentioned above, feel free to shoot me an email or leave questions in the comments section and I’ll be sure to get back to you all! Thanks again for your continued love and support, I am so very grateful for all of you. Wishing you all the best and lots of dreams coming true in 2014!
